Celebrating International Women’s Day

“The success of every women should be an inspiration to another. We’re strongest when we cheer each other on,” said world-renown tennis phenomenon, Serena Williams. In honor of International Women’s Day, Palmetto Goodwill is highlighting a few of the resilient and steadfast women that have come through our programs.

Jepara

United States Air Force veteran, single mother, and Charleston local, Jepara, became connected with Palmetto Goodwill during the summer of 2020 as she was seeking employment and career training. Shortly thereafter, Jepara enrolled in and completed Goodwill’s eight-week industrial welding program. Upon completion of the course, Jepara received her OSHA Construction Safety Completion Card, as well as her forklift certification. After applying for a handful of jobs in the Charleston area, she was called in for a forklift position with Sonoco, a private recycling company. However, after an outstanding sit-down interview, was offered an administrative role within the company. Jepara is now well on her way to financial equilibrium!

Jasmine

When Jasmine approached Palmetto Goodwill, she was unemployed and in desperate need of financial relief. Like many individuals, Jasmine was also the victim of a difficult home-life. With extreme diligence and prior experience in the healthcare industry, Jasmine completed one of Palmetto Goodwill’s online training courses and received her certification as a Professional Life Coach. She later began employment as a wellness center advocate in Conway, SC. She is currently enrolled in another online course and is set to receive her certification in meditation.

“If it hadn’t been for you answering the phone the day I called, I don’t know where I would be at right now. Thank you for giving me the chance to prove to myself that I can do it!” – Jasmine

Kera

Confidence and determination are just two of the qualities that make up Kera Graham, a recent graduate of our CDL program. After a strenuous job search, with no prior luck, Kera stumbled upon an advertisement for Palmetto Goodwill and decided to give it a shot. Check out Kera’s story here.

“I am now in a career making more money than I have ever made. My family can now breathe a little better and worry a lot less and I owe it all to the opportunity that Palmetto Goodwill provided to me.” – Kera

Najiyyah

Without warning, her company closed their South Carolina operations and outsourced Najiyyah’s job overseas. Najiyyah was in denial, felt paralyzed, not knowing what to do next. What she did know was that she had a family to raise and she was running out of time and money. Watch Najiyyah’s motivational journey below!

Palmetto Goodwill and our array of programs allow for women such as Jepera, Jasmine, Najiyyah and Kera to become the best version of themselves. If you or someone you know is looking for career opportunities or assistance please visit our Career Opportunity Centers. Here’s to all women everywhere!
