Thrifty Father’s Day Gift Ideas

 In Holidays + Occasions

By upcycling items you can easily find at many Goodwill stores, you’ll be able to present dad with a unique gift made just for him.

We’re giving you three different photo frame ideas that dad will love to put on display – choose the style that you think fits him best. Each of these starts by searching the home section of your local Goodwill for a photo frame. Most cost less than $5!

One you’ve finished one of these easy DIY frames, add a favorite snapshot, wrap it up and you’re done!

  • For the traditionalist. Scan through the puzzles and games section to find a used Scrabble box. Then, create a phrase for dad and use a hot glue gun to secure the wooden letters to the frame. Depending on the frame you choose, you can either add them to the matting behind the glass or to the frame itself. We love the way this one turned out.
  • For the techy dad. Same idea here but head to the computer section and grab an old keyboard. There are plenty for sale at our Computer Works Store in North Charleston. We recommend not using a phrase for this one unless you’re willing to buy a few keyboards. Either way, dad will appreciate the thought and time that went into his new desk accessory. • For the beer enthusiast. You’ll need to think ahead for this one. Start collecting beer caps a month or two before Father’s Day. Depending on the size of the frame, you may need to enlist the help of friends. Once you’ve collected enough, you’ll use the caps from Dad’s favorite brands to create a colorful, recycled frame that he’ll love. Full details here.

We’ve created a Pinterest board with detailed tutorials for these as well as some other “thriftspiration” for interesting and affordable gifts for dad.. Check it out here – https://www.pinterest.com/palmettogoodwil/thrifty-gifts-for-dad/
